C. K. Brothers came to Arizona in the late 60’s to attend Arizona State University where he studied Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, and Art Education. During his college years he traveled the Southwest extensively, becoming familiar with the native cultures and history of Arizona and New Mexico. After completing his degree he began a career in public education that spans over 25 years.

Having been trained in traditional oil techniques Brothers found his layers of paint becoming thinner and thinner. Early in the 90’s he made the transition to watercolor.

His high contrast abstract images with the combined use of local and expressive color reflect back to the influence of graphic art in his education. Brothers work captures the bright, squinting, sometimes blinding light of the clear Southwestern skies. His main subjects, the working ranchers and cowboys of today’s Southwest reveal the continuing tradition of independence, hard work, honesty and character that is the stuff of the American West.
C. K. Brothers currently lives in Flagstaff Az with his wife and children. He teaches Art at Williams Middle School and continues to paint.
